The Leonis Adobe Association has used the format of an 1880-period park in order to exhibit Calabasas Creek, the replicated Calabasas Jail, original antique park and garden "furniture," and replicated architectural elements of the 1875-1885 period to which the Leonis Adobe has been restored.
The front gate is a replica of a Victorian "Eastlake-style" gate of about 1875. The cast-iron fountain, chairs, benches, decorative urns, and drinking fountain are originals of the 1875-1885 period. In the 1870s, advancing technology and the discovery of vast quantities of iron ore made cast-iron objects reasonable and very popular. Cast-iron was used for decorative porches (particularly in the South), for the framework of the newly-invented "skyscrapers," for elaborate storefronts (some survive in downtown Los Angeles), as well as for all types of outdoor ornaments and outdoor "furniture."
